Belle of the Ball to hand out homecoming dresses to those in need

Seminole, Florida-- The Belle of the Ball Project will distribute homecoming dresses to high school girls from low-income families in Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties. The event kicks off today at 10 a.m. and will last through 2 p.m. at the Seminole Mall.

Unable to make it today? Don't worry; almost 4,000 quality dresses will be there for the choosing (along with shoes and purses!) on October 6 and 20, and again on November 3.

Tampa, Florida - Sam's Club on North Dale Mabry in Carrollwood is offering free diabetes and vision screenings for members and the public on Saturday, September 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 1.9 million new cases of diabetes are diagnosed each year, and the disease is the leading cause of new cases of blindness in adults in the U.S. If trends continue, 1 out of 3 U.S. adults will have diabetes by 2050.

Winn Dixie: Voluntary recall in Central and South Florida stores

Central and South Florida-- Winn-Dixie announced an immediate voluntary recall of select cut fruit produced by the Renaissance Food Group Friday. 

The recall, taking place in Central and South Florida Winn Dixie stores only, serves as a precaution because the prodcuts contain a mango ingredient that has the potential of being contaminated with Salmonella braenderup, Winn Dixie representatives said in a release. 

The products with Daniella Brand Mangoes distributed by Splendid Products are a part of the recall. They are as follows:

Offices closed during RNC to re-open after Labor Day

Tampa, Florida-- Hillsborough County government facilities closed in downtown Tampa for the Republican National Convention last week, but the county reports that things will return to business as usual.

"Most County buildings will be fully back in business on Tuesday (Sept. 4), following the Labor Day holiday. This includes County Center, the Public Utilities Department administration building, the Robert W. Saunders Sr. Library, and court facilities," a county-wide release states.

According to Hillsborough, the majority of the county offices and facilities will be closed. 

They say closed facilities inlude the administrative offices of County government, neighborhood service centers, all libraries, all County-operated Head Start/Early Head Start Centers, recreation centers, senior centers and nutrition sites.
