MOSI to host Hillsborough Brain Bowl

Tampa, FL-- The Museum of Science & Industry will host the Hillsborough County Public School’s Brain Bowl event tomorrow from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.

As many as 400 students will participate in science trivia and experiments, including a “Quiz Bowl,” trebuchet contest, mousetrap car competition, chemical equation balancing competition, demo contest and a poster contest.

Students qualified at their schoolsto make it to the final Brain Bowl at MOSI.

Arts offered to schools by Straz Center's Patel Conservatory

Tampa, Florida -- Teachers, parents and students know the value of a good arts education, but some schools just don’t have the resources to provide this valuable education component.

That’s why the exciting new program at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Art’s Patel Conservatory - Conservatory To-Go - has folks in the field of education energized.

“I know this is improving our school and tremendously benefiting our students,” says Thom Laux, principal at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic School (MHR), the first school to sign up for the program.

Tampa, Florida -- Looking for something unique for your child to do on a field trip? The Straz Center is offering a unique behind-the-scenes opportunity for students: A Day at the Straz.

Students and educators will participate in a theater workshop -- getting fun, hands-on theater experience designed to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. They will take a tour of the fascinating five-theater David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts complex, the largest performing arts venue south of the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

Hillsborough schools to host college nights for high school students

Tampa, Florida – The Hillsborough County Public Schools Guidance Services department is hosting four college nights for all high school students.

"High School students and their families will have the opportunity to visit with more than 100 college, university, and military academy representatives about preparing for college, applying to college, and the financial aid and scholarship processes," Hillsborough County Public School representatives explain in a release about the events.

The dates and locations are as follows. All meetings start at 6 p.m.:

$5K scholarship up for grabs for Hillsborough, Pasco students

The Right FitT Foundation has announced its first annual $5,000 scholarship for Tampa-area high school students.

To qualify, students must be a US Citizen, a resident of Pasco or Hillsborough counties, and have a weighted high school GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicants must also attend one of the Foundation's free college admission and financial aid classes. Two will be offered in September at the Jimmie Keel Library which students can sign up for at the link above.

Dance classes less expensive, more varied with Class Cards

Tampa, Florida-- So you think you can dance? Or at least you’d like to try? The Patel Conservatory is making it easy to try out different dance classes, through the Class Card.

Class Cards are valid for adults (including college students) for dance classes and the new Patel Conservatory class, Who Knew? With a Class Card, students can pick and choose what classes they’d like to take.

Class Cards allow for variety in dance classes, flexibility in schedules and discounted class tuition. Dance classes open to adult students include ballet, Flamenco, jazz, contemporary and tap.
