Hillsborough County seeks public feedback on its Draft Strategic Plan

Hillsborough County, Florida -- After three months of public input and five months of planning workshops, research and retreats, the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners has created their draft Strategic Plan for the County.

Residents are encouraged to review the draft Strategic Plan and give their comments on the Plan through the Strategic Plan blog, via email or phone by May 14. The County Commission will take their final vote on the Plan at their regular Board meeting on May 15.

Tallahassee, Florida - Gov. Rick Scott and leaders of Florida ports are urging President Obama to take action to prevent a possible strike by port workers this weekend.

The contract for members of the International Longshoremen's Association is set to expire Saturday night. The ILA is negotiating with the United States Maritime Alliance.

Gov. Scott says a strike by thousands of longshoremen could affect 550,000 jobs in Florida and send shockwaves through the state's economy. He says transporting cargo shipments generates $66 billion a year in Florida.

TAMPA, Florida (AP) - Gov. Rick Scott will hold a conference call with executives from Florida's ports to discuss how a possible strike would affect the state.

The conference call is planned for Thursday morning and will include port leaders from Miami, Jacksonville, Tampa, Manatee County, Palm Beach and Port Canaveral.

Tampa, Florida-- Hillsborough Commissioners have reorganized the councils and board they serve on. The reorganization comes following the first Hillsborough Commission meeting at the County Center.

TAMPA BAY, Florida -- Early voting days are done for this election, but some counties are finding a way to still let people vote in a very similar way.

Elections officials in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties are opening up their doors, offering over-the-counter vote by mail ballots.

"It's not early voting, but it is voting early," says Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Earl Lennard.

Hillsborough Co., FL-- The Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections sent out a reminder to voters; 5 p.m. today marks the deadline to request delivery of a general election Vote by Mail ballot.

After today, they say voters must appear in person at any Supervisor of Elections office to request a Vote by Mail ballot. 

Fun Fact: The Supervisor of Elections says they have mailed 187,315 Vote by Mail ballots so far this year, and they have received 106,503 back.

Hillsborough Co. FL-- The Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections reminded voters today that the deadline to request a Vote By Mail ballot for the November 6 Election is 5 p.m. this Wednesay, October 31. 

After 5 p.m. on October 31, voters may still pick up a Vote By Mail ballot in person at any of the Supervisor of Elections' four offices, but they will no longer be able to receive it by mail.
