Consumer Protection Agency warns of timeshare scams

Hillsborough County, Florida-- The Hillsborough County Consumer Protection Agency is warning residents of a recent rise in timeshare telemarketing scams. 

According to their latest Consumer Sense report, the rise comes as a result of the current economically challenging conditions- which have left many timeshare owners unable to afford their units. 

Health advisory issued for Picnic Island beach

Tampa, Florida -- A Health Advisory has been issued for Picnic Island beach, based on the criteria for enterococci bacteria recommended by the EPA.

This should be considered a potential risk to the bathing public.

The water samples are being analyzed for enteric bacteria (enterococci) that normally inhabit the intestinal tract of humans and animals, which may cause human disease, infections, or rashes. The presence of enteric bacteria is an indication of fecal pollution, which may come from storm water runoff, pets and wildlife, and human sewage. 

Humana hoping to hire over 150 in Tampa Bay

Tampa, Florida-- Humana Inc. has announced plans to add more than 170 jobs to its full-time telesales workforce in Tampa Bay, the company announced Wednesday.

The 170 new jobs will support Humana's Direct Marketing Services (DMS) call center at NetPark, located at 5701 E Hillsborough Ave., in East Tampa.

The Committee meets at 9 next Tuesday May 14 on the 26th Floor of County Center in Conference Room B.

County Center is located at 601 East Kennedy Blvd. in Downtown Tampa.

Giant flag mural going up in Tampa to honor local hero

Tampa, Florida -- An incredible work of art is going up in downtown Tampa that's 1,600 square feet of true love to honor a wounded warrior.

That's not paint gliding off Scott LoBaido's roller. That is passion.

"I have no control over it. It's another entity," LoBaido said Monday morning as he laid down the first strokes of an enormous American flag that will wave from the side of the Tampa Firefighters Museum.

Part of MacDill to be closed

Tampa, Florida -- Both directions of North MacDill Avenue will be closed between Heiter and Collins streets starting at 8 a.m. on Monday, May 6, to allow Tampa Wastewater Department crews to perform system repairs. Marked local detours will be in place for all traffic approaching this section of MacDill Avenue.

Resumption of normal traffic patterns are expected by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, depending on weather conditions. Please use caution when traveling in this area. Drivers should seek alternate routes during this period.
