Shakespearean Expert to teach at Patel Conservatory

Tampa, Florida-- If you want to learn Shakespearean lingo and acting, you’ve got to have a teacher with a British accent, right?

Tampa is now incredibly lucky to have Shakespearean expert Giles Davies teaching Beginning Adult Acting and the summer theater intensive for teens and college students at the Patel Conservatory – and he even has an English accent.

No one could sound more authentic – but Giles has never lived in England. He was raised in Hong Kong to British parents. Since then, he’s traveled so extensively, the only continent he hasn’t visited is Antarctica.

Bay Area woman arrested for animal abuse

TAMPA, Fla. - A Bay Area woman has been arrested for allegedly abusing her puppy, causing a broken rib and severe head injuries. Authorities took 32-year-old Lafonda Calloway into custody on Friday.

According to Animal Services, tips from neighbors led investigators to Calloway's home along Astoria Drive. They took the 8-week-old puppy named "Macho" away from the home after they say investigators found classic signs of abuse. Officials say apart from the visible injuries, the puppy would cower and urinate as soon as it saw Calloway.

Man in critical condition after crashing off Bayshore into Tampa Bay

Tampa, Florida -- Witnesses say a car traveling down South Boulevard careened across Bayshore and crashed through the wall into Tampa Bay, narrowly missing joggers and oncoming traffic Friday night.

The Toyota Corolla sank into the water as bystanders jumped into the water trying to free the trapped driver.

"We just heard a boom and both looked over and the car was in the water," said Kaley Goodman. Her boyfriend was among those who jumped in to help.

Hillsborough School Sports Awards Ceremony moved

Tampa, Florida -- There is a change in the The Hillsborough County Public Schools spring sports awards.

The awards have been moved from Thursday, May 24, at 10 a.m. to Wednesday, May 23, at 10 a.m., in the school board auditorium at 901 E. Kennedy Blvd., Tampa.

Team GPA and individual sport awards will be presented for baseball (GPA only), softball, track and field, tennis, and flag football. The Vernon Kohrn Award for total athletic program also will be awarded.

The market features 100 to 130 vendors selling foods, arts crafts and other locally produced goods.

This month, the market will feature the Allen Thomas Jazz Group.

The market starts at 9 a.m. and runs till 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 13.

Tampa General Hospital on Davis Islands in South Tampa offers KIDCare daycare where parents of kids who are sick (earache, stomach bug, etc.) can drop off their kids, ages 2 months to 15 years old, while they go to work.

You must make reservations no more than 24 hours in advance. It is first come, first serve. You can call: 813-844-7192.

KIDCare daycare program at TGH is offered from 6:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The cost is $5.00 an hour.

South Tampa mom talks about "Surviving Survivor"

South Tampa's own local Survivor: One World contestant, Monica Culpepper shares her experience on the reality show.

Monica is a multi-tasking mother of three. She proved she could handle anything, hunting for food, taking on challenges and surviving on nothing but skill.

She says the hardest part was being separated from her family for 50 days.
