Tampa, FL-- Two suspects caught by officers Friday morning during an attempted car break-in at South Tampa's Patriot Park were driving a vehicle that was reported stolen Thursday, reports say.
Jeremy Holloway and Justin George, both 26, were reportedly driving a white, 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass when they pulled into the park just before 9 a.m.
Officers dressed in plain clothing were already stationed at the park to keep an eye out for auto burglars, and watched as the passenger got out of the car, crouched next to another and peeped through the window to see what was inside.
When a city vehicle marked with emblems entered the lot, the passenger reportedly got back into the stolen Cutlass, and the two drove around a police car to flee the scene.
Officers kept their distance from the suspects as they fled down Bayshore Blvd. so as to avoid a car chase during Gasparilla preparations, but air service kept a close eye, reports say.
The suspects crashed the stolen Cutlass into a tree after turning onto Rome Ave., and attempted to flee, but air, motorcycle and K-9 officers were successful in catching them.
George was found hiding on someone's back porch, and Holloway was found in another resident's yard.
Both will be taken to Orient Road Jail after questioning.
