M.J. vs. Bubba The Love Sponge trial continues | News

Tampa, Florida -- Offensive, yes, but did popular shock-jock Bubba the Love Sponge actually defame his radio rival MJ and MJ's wife?
The civil trial continued today in a Tampa courtroom, with testimony from a former boss named Dan DiLoreto.
DiLoreto testified that, in his opinion, comments made by Bubba on his radio program went beyond theatre of the mind.
He cringed, said DiLoreto, at Bubba's use of terms like funeral, and 9mm, and comments about wanting to see MJ dead.
"That one scared me," said DiLoreto.
The former station manager said knowing both men personally, their mutual disdain went beyond any radio rivalry.
But DiLoreto admitted he'd never seen any of Clem's loyal fans, known as "Bubba's Army" - ever threaten Schnitt, or his wife Michelle.
And despite assertions now made in court of concern for personal safety, MJ nor his staff had ever asked for added security, said DiLoreto.
"There would be normal security, but there was no specific security added."
"And specifically he did not request any added security?" asked Bubba's lawyer.
"To me, he did not."
"At any point in time?"
"That's correct."
With no threat to safety, questions turned to financial damages.
But DiLoreto also testified he was also unaware of MJ ever losing radio sponsors, syndication spots, or suffering any financial harm as a result of Bubba's comments.
"You're not aware of a single economic loss suffered by Mr. Schnitt, are you?" he was asked.
"I am not," said DiLoreto.
Following that line of questions, Bubba was called back to the stand.
More radio clips were also played for jurors suggesting why Clem and his radio crew thought Schnitt and his wife Michelle, who worked at the State Attorney's office, were behind Bubba's prosecution for killing a pig on the air.
Connecting the dots, said Bubba, "based on MJ's disdain for me and based on MJ's wife associated with the state attorney."
Nobody has testified who has been able to substantiate Clem's claim.
The jury also heard today from some former co-workers.
One woman testified it was she who went to prosecutors, horrified over the so-called hog incident.
Also, a former promotions director testified that MJ had never rigged any contests to her knowledge.
