Red carpet: 93.3 FLZ's Jingle Ball Tampa Bay 2012 | News
Tampa, FL-- "10 News Web Producer"- it's a position that entails so many different responsibilities. Fortunately for me, covering amazing, star-studded events in Tampa Bay happens to be one of the many hats I'm required to wear.
Exhibit A: 93.3 FLZ's Jingle Ball Tampa Bay, where I snapped photos of some of pop music's biggest names on the red carpet- including the fabulous Justin Bieber, Ke$ha, One Republic, Ed Sheeran and more!
Those of you pop fans know right away these headlining acts are HUGE, so you can only imagine my excitement when offered the opportunity.
Since this was my very first time covering something like this, I arrived as soon as the doors opened for media check-in. There was no way I'd be late, and I have to admit, I also hoped to get a great spot to take pictures (Goal accomplished!)
I stayed close to the public relations representatives covering the show in the media holding area; I knew they would be the ones to take us up to the red carpet, and being first in line was my one and only priority!
The anticipation was building as I waited patiently.
"Okay, I'll take the first eight photographers up now," said one of the reps.
That was my cue.
Into the elevator and up to the fifth floor of the Tampa Bay Times Forum we went, where a red carpet, bright lights and a "Jingle Ball Tampa Bay" backdrop awaited.
Forget anticipation at this point; excitement took over.
I rushed over to the red velvet rope that would shortly be the only thing other than six-feet of air to separate me from the concert's headlining acts.
He looked awesome! Wearing a simple hoodie, jeans, and some of the coolest shoes I've seen yet- a thought I was sure to share with him! He thanked me and said, "Wow. So complimentary! I'm coming back to Tampa more often!"
My heart. Was. Pounding!
After Ed, the stars began rolling through. The Ready Set, Jordan Witzgreuter, best known for his song, "Love Like Woe"; Austin Mahone, best known for his song "Say Somethin"; and Zedd, an electronic music producer adored for his recent hit, "Spectrum" featuring Matthew Koma, all strolled by.
As I shot photos of Austin, I asked him if Tampa was his favorite of all of the tour stops.
"Oh yeah; I love Tampa; It's awesome," he said as he posed. My inner teenybopper was very pleased that Austin Mahone just humored me!
The rapid clicking of cameras was all I could hear. Flashes were going everywhere and the band just stood there posing comfortably in their trendy outfits. I gathered my thoughts quickly and snapped photos too, asking them at one point to, "please look this way!" with a huge smile on my face.
As they were whisked away to do on-camera interviews, actress and singer/songwriter Bridgit Mendler, popular for her hit, "Ready or Not" walked the carpet.
Next up was Walk The Moon, a very goofy and entertaining indie rock group best known for their hit "Anna Sun". These guys were having a blast with each other, and even with us! Their bright colored outfits, animal print pants and all, definitely represented their outgoing and playful personalities well.
As they exited, Ke$ha, one of the most anticipated acts of the night, walked through the doors. Every photographer braced themselves. Best known for her songs, "Tik Tok" and "We R Who We R", and her latest album, "Warrior", this artist has been topping charts and collecting fans for years.
Wearing floral metallic pants, a mismatched floral shirt and a leather jacket, Ke$ha looked very trendy as she worked the red carpet!
At this point I had to stop to collect my thoughts and take in everything that had happened so far.
"Yes, you're photographing extremely famous musicians on the red carpet at one of Tampa's biggest annual events. AHH!," I thought.
But my moment in my head was just that- a moment. Before I knew it, it came time to photograph the one and only Justin Bieber, whose most recent hit "Boyfriend" has been his biggest yet.
The PR reps told us Justin's shoot would take place in a different location, as he had "very little time."
Another elevator ride and a walk through the backstage area (where we passed One Republic guitarist Drew Brown, Ke$ha walking with her cat, and Walk The Moon band's dressing room) and we were braced for Bieber.
Justin, wearing black pants, a simple white t-shirt and black hoodie, walked in and posed very briefly for the shoot.
Though it was short, I think I speak for each of the photographers when I say it was amazing to be so close to Justin. "Bieber Fever" is an understatement!
With the end of Bieber's shoot, my duties on the red carpet were finished, but my time at the forum wasn't quite over.
Some of 93.3 FLZ's amazing reps allowed us to stay and watch the show- from BACKSTAGE!
As I danced and sang along to Bieber's performance, I couldn't help but notice two of the stars I photographed earlier, Zedd and Austin Mahone, watching the show even closer to me than they'd been during the shoot. They had already performed, and were watching the other acts- just as the rest of Tampa Bay's fans were doing.
It all happened so fast, but I know I'll never forget such an amazing experience, especially since it was all documented with such amazing photos- Be sure to check those out above!
