Health Advisory lifted for 2 Tampa beaches

Tampa, Florida-- The Hillsborough County Health Department issued an advisory on August 29 for Davis Island Beach, and Bahia Beach.

The department announced today that follow-up testing produced satisfactory results based on the marine water bacterial indicator results as recommended by the EPA.

Free health screenings at Carrollwood Sam's Club

Tampa, Florida - Sam's Club on North Dale Mabry in Carrollwood is offering free diabetes and vision screenings for members and the public on Saturday, September 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 1.9 million new cases of diabetes are diagnosed each year, and the disease is the leading cause of new cases of blindness in adults in the U.S. If trends continue, 1 out of 3 U.S. adults will have diabetes by 2050.

Winn Dixie: Voluntary recall in Central and South Florida stores

Central and South Florida-- Winn-Dixie announced an immediate voluntary recall of select cut fruit produced by the Renaissance Food Group Friday. 

The recall, taking place in Central and South Florida Winn Dixie stores only, serves as a precaution because the prodcuts contain a mango ingredient that has the potential of being contaminated with Salmonella braenderup, Winn Dixie representatives said in a release. 

The products with Daniella Brand Mangoes distributed by Splendid Products are a part of the recall. They are as follows:

Tampa, Florida -- Parents, grandparents or caregivers can learn emergency life-saving techniques including CPR, choking emergency tactics and rescue breathing for infants or children.

This class does not provide CPR certification, but it does teach basic skills that will aid any new parent or caregiver.

Classes are held on Monday nights at Tampa General hospital from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Health advisories issued for two Hillsborough beaches

Hillsborough County, Florida-- The Health Department issued a health advisory for two Hillsborough beaches after  county saltwater beach monitoring results indicated high levels of enterococci bacteria.

The advisory, issued for Picnic Island in South Tampa and Cypress Point in West Tampa, should be considered a potential risk to the bathing public.

The beaches, according to the county Health Department,  will be re-sampled Monday, August 20, 2012.

Health Warning to oyster consumers and Gulf, Bay swimmers

Tampa, Florida-- The Hillsborough County Health Department warns Tampa Bay area residents and visitors of a potentially life threatening illness brought on by a bacteria existing in undercooked oysters and local waters.

The bacteria, Vibrio vulnificus, infected two Hillsborough County residents this year, and resulted in the loss of their lives, the Health Department says in a recent release. 

They say the bacteria occurs naturally in coastal areas of the Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, and is especially common the summer months' warmer waters.
