Mayor Buckhorn to Light Downtown Bridges

Tampa. Florida- A lighting ceremony is scheduled for Friday, August 10 in honor of Mayor Bob Buckhorn's lighting of the downtown bridges.

The event will take place at 8:15 p.m., followed immediately by a screening of "The Wizard of Oz" on the great lawn at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park.

Tampa, Florida-- The weather’s still hot, but all students know summer is passing much too swiftly. With that in mind, Patel Conservatory students are creating a Short Film Festival with the theme, A Tribute to Summer.

Held Friday, August 10 at 7 p.m. in the TECO Theater at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts, A Tribute to Summer will include an eclectic mix of short films devised by students from the Conservatory’s Making a Short Film camps. A couple of the film titles are Lucky Penny and Quack Attack.

Hillsborough County, Florida-- Hillsborough County Public Schools and the Back-to-School Coalition of Hillsborough County are co-hosting opportunities for free physicals and immunizations on upcoming Saturdays.

Free school physicals are available to any child entering a Florida school for the first time in grades kindergarten through 12, Public Schools representatives said in a recent release.

Tampa, Florida-- Allow your child to dip their toes in visual and performance arts by signing them up for Kids Create Art Camp.

According to the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department, children are taught everything from pottery techniques and art history to sculpture, painting and much more. 

The camp, for children ages 8-12, is located at North Hubert Art Studio, 309 N. Hubert Ave.

Tampa, Florida-- Hillsborough County Public Schools representatives have announced that the county has hired approximately 700 new public school teachers for the county. 

These teachers will receive a four-day training regarding the school district's vision, mission and goals beginning next Monday, July 23. 

It's Summer now, but back-to-school season is right around the corner, and Hillsborough County will be prepared!
