Local estuary programs hold King Tide Photo Contest

Tampa Bay, Florida -- Tampa Bay and Sarasota Bay Estuary Programs are holding a King Tide Contest for the best images that depict the King Tide tomorrow, June 5.

King Tides occur when the moon and sun align on one side of the Earth and their gravitational forces combine to create extraordinary high tides - usually twice a year.

Cash prizes are being offered for the best photos that illustrate the sea level rise:

State wildlife officials have designated Saturday, April 7 as a license-free fishing day.

Tampa, Fla. -- The Hillsborough County Health Department has issued a health advisory for Picnic Island Beach due to high levels of enterococci bacteria.

The county health department says swimmers should be advised this is considered a potential health risk.

The beach will be re-sampled on Monday, March 5.

Solid Waste Holiday collection schedule

Tampa, FL -- The City of Tampa has announced the residential and commercial collection schedule for solid waste customers will not be affected by the Christmas holiday for the week of Dec. 25 - 31.

Both collection services will run as normal. 

The McKay Bay Transfer Station/Scalehouse will not be affected by the Christmas holiday, but will run a modified schedule on Christmas Eve, closing at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 24.
