Tampa, FL-- 10 News invites you to join us in helping bring the joy of reading to children who may not otherwise have books in their lives. A drive to collect books for Goodwill’s BookWorks preschool literacy program starts Feb. 1 and runs through March 15.
People in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Polk, Pasco, Hernando and Marion counties are asked to donate new or like-new books for children ages 2-5, and can do so by heading to any Goodwill-Suncoast store or donation site. Just leave the books with a note indicating they are "For BookWorks".
Click the above link, or call toll-free 888-279-1988 for Goodwill-Suncoast stores and donation sites.
Goodwill’s BookWorks program promotes literacy by putting books into the hands of children from low-income families. Goodwill volunteers read to groups of preschool children at Head Start centers and other locations and then present each child with a personalized book to take home.
Last year, Goodwill volunteers presented books to more than 4,000 disadvantaged preschool children in Tampa Bay through this program. . It was taken at Woodlawn Head Start center in St. Petersburg. I’d be happy to arrange for you to film a volunteer reader in action.
