TPD memorial service to remember heroes tomorrow | Community Spirit

Tampa, Florida -- Tomorrow, Friday, May 4, the Tampa Police Department will hold a memorial service in honor of fallen TPD heroes. 

The event takes place annually, and includes a 21-gun salute and a Tampa Police Aviation Flyover.

This year's ceremony will be the first to include the addition of a candle light vigil and the lighting of a blue laser, to be symbolic of the thin blue line. 

According to the Tampa Police, the thin blue line represents the small amount of police officers, dressed in blue, standing between the criminal element and the law abiding citizens.  

The blue laser will shine across Lykes Gaslight Park.

TPD welcomes the public to join in the memorial service, set for 7:30 p.m. at the Tampa Police Downtown Headquarters, 411 North Franklin Street.
