Tampa, Florida-- This Saturday, April 28, from 11:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m., join in the free celebration of Asian culture at Asia Fest 2012, put on by the Asian Coalition of Florida. 

The event, in honor of National Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, takes place at Cotanchobee Park, 601 Old Water St. in the Channelside District near downtown Tampa.

Attendees will be wowed by colorful dance performances, traditional music, and of course, fine Asian cuisine.

Free Dance Classes for National Dance Week at Patel Conservatory

Tampa, Florida--National Dance Week (April 20-29) has started - and to celebrate, the Patel Conservatory is offering three free dance classes to the public!

On Saturday, April 28, come try:

Theatrical Movement for Dancers from 12:45-1:30 p.m. – taught by Matthew Belopavlovich.

Tap Dance Basics from 1:30-2:30 p.m. – taught by Susan Downey.

Jazz Dance from 2:30-3:30 p.m. – taught by Susan Downey.

Classes are available for those in grades two and older; students under 12 must have a parent or guardian with them. No pre-registration is necessary.

St. Petersburg, Florida -- The Florida Orchestra will conclude its 2011/2012 season next month, offering an array of musical entertainment from Billy Joel to Beethoven.

May 3: Pops in the Park

Pack a picnic basket and enjoy a free Pops in the Park Concert under the stars with guest conductor Steven Byess. Blue Bell Ice Cream will be serving free treats.

Then how about giving her the gift of a performing arts class this Mother’s Day? The Patel Conservatory at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts has classes in dance, music and theater for all ages and experience levels. They also offer private lessons.

Ybor City, Florida-- On Friday May 4, the Singing Stone Gallery & Studio in Ybor City invites you to meet artist Terry Andrews as they kick off his exhibition at the studio from 6-9 p.m.

The exhibit, "From the imagination of Terry Andrews" begins May 4 and ends June 1. 

Guests will have the opportunity to discuss the artwork with Andrews, and partake in light hors-d'oeuvres and drinks.

Patel Conservatory students will be in the limelight at the Spotlight Awards 2012, an evening celebrating student accomplishments, on Wednesday, May 23 in Ferguson Hall at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts.

A pre-show dinner will begin the festivities at 5 p.m., followed by the 7 p.m. presentation of Spotlight awards given to students of merit. Entertainment will be provided by Patel Conservatory dance, music and theater students.

Most people know that the Patel Conservatory in downtown Tampa offers excellent classes and summer camps in the performing arts. But a lot of people don’t realize that private lessons are also available in just about any aspect of theater, dance and music.

Gregory Ruffer, Music Department chair, gives private voice lessons to numerous students and several have recently won top honors!
