Heart Health Month at Fit2Run - Tampa

Tampa, Florida-- Fit2Run LIVE Painting and GPS watch Fundraiser Raffle to benefit the American Heart Association.

Some of you may already know that February is Heart Health Month. In order to bring more awareness to this important public health movement, Fit2Run - Tampa has partnered with local artists and Polar USA for a month-long fundraising event to benefit the American Heart Association.

PTEC campuses host regional SkillsUSA competition this week

More than 500 students from Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties are expected to compete in the two-day SkillsUSA regional competition Feb. 6 - 7 at pTEC, Clearwater and St. Petersburg.

Students will compete in numerous categories including automotive service technology, cosmetology, welding, photography, and plumbing.

Straz announces Broadway Series 2013-2014

Tampa, Florida --The David A. Straz Center for the performing Arts is unveiling its schedule Broadway series for the 2013-2014 season.

The hit play the Book of Mormon is the lead of the series and runs November 12-24, 2013. It will be followed by Gershwin's Porgy and Bess January 14-19 2014.

Once, the winner of 8 Tony awards will be at the Center from Feb 11-16 2014.

Then Evita, the story of Eva Perone comes to town March 18-23 2014.

Ghosts the Musical is up next April 22-27 2014.

2nd Annual Re-Purposed Doodad Sculpture Competition

Tampa, FL-- "One man's trash is another man's treasure."- that statement couldn't ring more true for students from 66 Hillsborough County schools next Tuesday, when they will compete in the 2nd Annual Re-Purposed Doodad Sculpture Competition.

Organizers say a total of 3,000 cigar boxes (left over after the actual cigars were donated to American Service members) will be transformed from "throw-aways" to "art" by students from all grades.

A jury of artists will judge the complete works and award various prizes, and even a summer art scholarship, to the winning students.

Straz Center’s Patel Conservatory offers FREE Rock School workshop on Jan. 5

Tampa, FL-- The Patel Conservatory at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts invites the public to attend a FREE Rock School workshop on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at 1 p.m. in the TECO Theater.

Rock School instructors Dean Tidey and Paul Stoddart, along with current Rock School students, will demonstrate the inner workings of the Patel Conservatory’s popular Rock School program. Vocal Coach Deborah Lynch will assist with vocal instruction.

Children and Youth to sing in Patel Conservatory concert

Tampa, Florida -- Students from Patel Conservatory Junior and Senior choirs and KidSong I and II will perform music ranging from classical cantatas to Broadway show-stoppers on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m.

Under the direction of conductors Deborah D. Lynch, Allison Novak and Kavanaugh Gillespie, students will perform at the Straz Center's Ferguson Hall.
