Slain officer's dog now protects his family

Hillsborough County, Florida - Now there is a boy and his dog. "My reward is to keep him forever and he's my dog," says 12-year-old Caleb Yaslowitz.  But first there was a man and his dog-St. Pete Police Officer Jeffrey Yaslowitz and his K-9 Ace.

Jeff's wife Lorraine says it was a match made in heaven. "This dog, he was perfect," she says. "Their relationship, I almost envied it. I envied Jeff more than I did Ace-that he had this dog that waited on everything he did; Ace circulated him and protected him."

But Ace was not able to protect Jeff last January, when he climbed into an attic after a wanted fugitive-a man with a gun.

At Jeffrey's funeral, Ace was agitated. You couldn't help but think the dog knew something was terribly wrong-that he was searching for his master.

Gas prices fall despite increase in oil prices

Gas prices fall despite increase in oil prices

Tampa, FL -- Average retail gasoline prices in Tampa fell 2.7 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.52/g Sunday. This compares with the national average that has fallen 0.1 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.66/g, according to gasoline price website TampaGasPrices.com.

"Late last week we started to see a drop in wholesale gasoline prices, which is the price stations pay. Such news means the national average may begin moving lower," Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst said in a release. "While I'm hopeful we'll start to see lower retail gasoline prices in the days ahead, we have seen considerable volatility and I'd hate to see the market move higher in the days ahead, negating any expected drop in retail prices."

Local dancers perform at galas nationwide

Four dancers with Next Generation Ballet at the Patel Conservatory/Straz Center for the Performing Arts (NGB) are performing in galas this month in Miami and Indianapolis!

This is quite an honor for these young dancers, and for their instructor, Peter Stark. Stark, who is only 46, has the reputation of leading young dancers to greatness, as several of his students have gone on to professional careers in prestigious ballet companies and one of his students, Ethan Fuller, earned the lead role in a Broadway touring production of "Billy Elliot."

Thirteen-year-old Kemper Joseph Cassada will join Hannah Stanford and William Dugan, both 14, in dancing at the XVI Annual International Ballet Festival of Miami (IBFM), which opened August 26 and lasts through September 18, 2011.
