Man pleads guilty to bringing gun onto MacDill

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A former Army ranger who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder haspleaded guilty to trying to bring a loaded handgun and 300 rounds of ammunition onto MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa last summer.

The Tampa Bay Times reported Monday that federal prosecutors are recommending a year's probation for 49-year-old Scott Harkenreader.

Kids are Heroes winners announced

Kids are Heroes winners announced

Tampa, Fla. -- On Feb. 20, St. Joseph's Children's Hospital announced the winners of its annual Kids are Heroes campaign during a special ceremony with Tampa Bay Lightning and Kids are Heroes Spokeschampion Steven Stamkos.

113 children ages 5 to 18 years old were nominated by others in the community in stories that highlighted heroic and selfless deeds. In November, Stamkos helped patients of St. Joseph's Children's Hospital choose the winners in each age group.

Robinson High student wins Vanguard Award

Tampa, Fla. -- Congratulations to Christopher Duvall, a senior from Robinson High School! He won January's Vanguard Award.

Each month Vanguard Attorneys select an outstanding athlete who is also a leader on and off the field. They also donate $1,000 to the school.

Christopher Duvall is a part of the Robinson IB program,. He is also a member of the Robinson football and track teams. He gives back through his church and community projects.

“Mark makes sure our lives are really fun; he’s so happy,” says Elena Bensonoff, mother of 8-year-old Mark.

With aspirations of performing on Broadway, Mark practices at home constantly. He never stops singing and he stages theatrical productions in their home daily, with or without an audience.
