HART offers free rides for students on spring break

Hillsborough County, Fla. -- Spring break begins next week for Hillsborough County public school students, and if gas prices have your pockets pinched, then hop on HART for free!

HART has announced that throughout March, it is hosting its Spring Break STAY-cation program for middle and high school students. Just show Student ID or a HART Youth ID, and ride FREE on all HART local bus routes, as well as In-Town Trolley and Flex services.

Gasparilla Music Festival debuts Saturday

Tampa, Florida --  About a year ago, a few Tampa area residents decided it's time Tampa has it's own music festival.

There's already a Gasparilla Pirate Festival, Gasparilla Arts Festival and Gasparilla Film Festival, so why not stick with the trend.

And so, the Gasparilla Music Festival was born.

The Bear Went Over the Mountain this weekend at Straz Center

Tampa, Fla.  -- The Patel Conservatory Youth Theater in Conjunction with the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts is presenting the Bear Went over the Mountain. 

The performance is at 7 p.m. this Friday and Saturday, March 9-10 at the TECO theaters at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts in Downtown Tampa.

The Straz describes the show as an opportunity to "see what Da Bear and his animal buddies discover as they journey up the mountain in search of adventure!"

Duckling rescue in south Tampa

Tampa, Florida - Some good Samaritans tried to help a frantic mother duck reclaim some of her ducklings Wednesday from a hungry storm drain in south Tampa. 

It happened in the parking lot of a condo on in the 4000 block of South Dale Mabry.

Bystanders were able to pluck two of the three ducklings out of the storm sewer, but the third baby duck took off down the pipe.

The mother duck was also scared and took off with what remained of her brood.

A Hillsborough County employee came to the scene and took the two rescued ducklings.

Sheriff's Office employees hit the streets for a good cause

Tampa, Florida -- On Fridays, some employees of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office are running on a tight schedule.

"You have to keep kind of moving kind of fast," says Capt. Traci Cunningham.

But their operation is all off-duty.

They're organizing food, figuring our their routes, and rushing hot dishes to people who need them and may not have food otherwise.

A group of more than 50 detention department employees spends part of their day off as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, mostly helping senior citizens and people who are homebound.
